The Power of an Encouraging Word

Maya Angelou once wrote:

“I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them FEEL.”

We often equate value with education.

Especially those of us in the coaching or consulting industry.

But your followers are drowning in information.

While all your competitors are trying to prove they’re an expert…

Your prospects are suffering with fear, doubt and hopelessness.

What they need is to feel like there’s someone who understands and cares about what they’re going through.

They need hope.

They need inspiration.

They need someone to encourage them – to tell them it will all work out.

I remember when I was going through my divorce…

My attorney was an emotionless man.

You can’t blame him. You would have to be in his line of work.

I, on the other hand, was an emotional wreck.

I was facing financial ruin…

And the prospect of being pushed out of my kids lives.

One day we were sitting together in his office and I commented about how hopeless things seemed.

He looked up and said,

“Jason, it’s going to be okay. It may not feel like that right now but I’ve been a divorce lawyer for 25 years. You’ll get through this. Just stay strong.”

At that moment I didn’t need a great lawyer. I needed someone with experience to give me the confidence to keep going.

Your followers are no different.

And if you need a bit of encouragement from someone who’s been entrepreneur’ing it for the last 15 years then let me say…

It’s going to be okay. It may not feel like that right now, but I’ve been doing this a long time. You’ll get through this. Just stay strong.
